How big is the group? Am I too young / too old to participate?
Minimum 5, maximum 12 people.
Participants must be 18 years or older. There’s no upper age limit.
What will the weather be like?
The weather is generally quite warm from May till October, although rain isn’t unusual in mountainous areas in May and October.
Do I have to be fit?
We’ll use local transport on our days of excursions and will do some easy walking. You should be able to walk at least 1km and carry your painting equipment. Those who want to hike in the mountain should make sure they are fit enough to do so as some terrain can be difficult and the walk strenuous. Take out adequate travel insurance that covers you for your chosen activities. Some terrain might be difficult to access by wheelchair.
I have special dietary requirements. Will the hotels and restaurants cater for me?
Some hotels might cater for people with dietary restrictions, however I cannot guarantee that all will do. Please let me know before you book so that I can check with the hotels and restaurants.
How do I get to Northern Greece?
Please arrange your flight to Thessaloniki Airport where our pick-up point is. From here we travel onwards by land transport.
Do not buy your flight ticket before you receive a written confirmation that the trip will go ahead. I will not be held responsible for already purchased tickets that have to be cancelled or changed or for not finding available tickets if booking too late. (See the cancellation and refund policy!)
What will I learn?
Your tour leader specialises in watercolour painting and has a lot of experience painting outdoors. You will learn a range of techniques, different elements of painting (composition, mood, perspective, colour mixing,..etc), practical information that will help you with painting outdoors. By the end of the week you will have some finished paintings as well as many creative sketches. You can paint in any medium, the artist can guide you in any medium. Please bring your own materials.
Can I join this trip even if I’m an experienced artist?
All levels are welcome. You are free to paint what you like. However, if you are a painter, the same prices apply.
What if I’m a non-painting partner?
You are welcome to join the holiday and do other activities (eg. walking, photography, paragliding, swimming, cycling) while the rest of the group is painting. A discount of £TBC applies to non-painting partners.
What painting equipment should I bring?
Make sure you can pack into a smaller rucksack and it is not heavier than 2-3 kg. On our excursion days we’ll get to our painting locations by vehicle, on other days we’ll do a bit of walking (1-2km). I recommend a limited selection of paints and a smaller plastic palette. 2 different sized brushes, 1 large, 1 fine. Pencil, eraser and sharpener, water pot, small sketchbook with at least 150g sheets. A3 size watercolour/acrylic/oil block or pad. Also bring some bulldog clips, they are useful to hold your paper down when it gets windy. A roll of kitchen towels are very useful if you are using watercolours and acrylic or a rag if you are using oils. Bring your own light-weight easel if you need one and anything else that you might think that you can’t do without.
If you need help with this, I can help you with a list.
